Clearly, it will be preferable for your son/daughter to study with their class teacher but if they are unable to do so because of other commitments, they will be most welcome to study with any other member of the English Faculty.

    The Exam Papers:
Check what is being tested in each part of the exam
the focus; the key skills – how to be successful for each section. (LOOK AT PAST PAPERS!)
Make sure you read the tasks carefully.
Underline key words; use them in your answers.
Check the number of marks each question is worth.
Do not spend too long on a question worth 1 or 2 marks.
Make sure you are giving the right kind of
    Further information
e.g. How are facts and opinions used ... needs examples of facts and opinions plus comments on what they add to the text.
    Content:
PLAN before you write – bullet points/a list – you need a range of ideas. Organise these into
PARAGRAPHS - order your writing to make sense and interest the reader.
Check you are using the right kind of words (language) – think Purpose; Audience; Form (PAF)
VARIETY – use different words; different sentence lengths; different connectives; start sentences in different ways.
Engage your reader - be imaginative
    PUNCTUATE accurately.
Mark the end of each sentence with a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark. DO NOT END A SENTENCE WITH A COMMA.
    PRACTISE – read newspapers; plan arguments; write short descriptions. Go over the meaning of the poems;
memorise the meanings of poetic devices. Create a set of cards with key points and examples. Listen to podcasts. Work with friends.
